[ Women Musicians Network 23rd Annual Concert - Berklee Performance Center ] Performed on November 7th, 2019 Jin-Yeong So who is a singer and actor at Berklee College of Music from South Korea sings Arirang. Arirang is a Korean folk song that is often considered the unofficial national anthem of Korea and included on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list. It is more than 600 years old and had been handed down orally more than 3,600 variations with different versions which means even before South and North Korea had divided. Our culture has a lot of sorrow and regret, but this song has a message of forgiveness with expressing sorrow. Inspired by Korean jazz singer Youn Sun Nah, and Jin wrote an original poem. Jin wanted to deliver calm and peace to the audience. [ Poem by Jin-Yeong So & Korean translation ] “ Past is the past, we can’t turn it back.
